Fun Day Trips Near Denver

It is a great time to get out and enjoy summer.  There is so much to do in our area that there is no reason not to find a new adventure to appreciate.  Whether you are ready to cruise the High Country looking at the beauty of the changing colors or want to take the family for a fun day out, Colorado offers something for everyone!  You don’t even have to travel far for an amazing experience, either!  Here are just a few things to do within a short drive from the Denver area:

• PIKES PEAK HIGHWAY (Pikes Peak Hwy, Cascade)
  Often called “America’s Mountain”, Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, CO, provides a scenic day out for the whole family.  Everyone will appreciate the stunning views as you cruise up the Pikes Peak Highway, a 19-mile-long road that weaves its way to the top.  When you get there, stop into the Summit Visitor Center where you will find a well-stocked gift shop and the famous donuts made right there!  Just a few tips for your trip- make sure to fill up with fuel before the drive since there are no fueling stations along the way or at the top, take a jacket because it will be colder at the summit, and expect the drive to take just over an hour or slightly longer.
• BUFFALO BILL MUSEUM AND GRAVE (987 Lookout Mountain Rd, Golden)
  Just a short drive from Denver, the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave is a must-see for Wild West enthusiasts.  Not only is William ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody buried there, but there is also a museum housing an excellent selection of artifacts and exhibits about this legendary cowboy!  Plus, its location on Lookout Mountain means you get to experience a scenic drive to reach the museum.
• DENVER ART MUSEUM (100 W. 14^th Ave. Pkwy, Denver)
  Do you want to stay in Denver?  How about a day at the Denver Art Museum (DAM)?  This museum has something for art lovers of any age, with about 70,000 pieces in its collection.   The DAM also hosts a variety of traveling exhibitions, so you never know what treasures will appear!  Have children who might not be art lovers yet?  They are sure to enjoy making their art and playing with props at the family center!
• WINGS OVER THE ROCKIES AIR & SPACE MUSEUM (7711 E. Academy Blvd, Denver)
  Also located in Denver, the Wings Over the Rockies Museum offers another great indoor option.  This museum is housed in a hangar on what used to be Lowry Air Force Base.  Now it is home to over 100,000 square feet of exhibitions detailing a history of aircraft, space vehicles, and more!  There are even replicas of spacecraft from the popular Star Wars movies to view.
