Six Road Trip Planning Tips to Use For Your Upcoming Adventure

Know Your Destination & How You Plan on Getting There –

Whether it’s a family-favorite vacation destination you’ve been to numerous times, or you are planning on taking everyone somewhere new in the United States, it’s important to know where the destination is and what your route will be. This includes any cities you’ll drive through and the various highways you’ll be taking. Also, make note of any side roads that you may want to take as they can be more difficult to read on a map.

Schedule Regular Stops –

Pushing yourself and your family to make as much distance as possible per stop can make the experience more tiring and stressful for everyone. We recommend planning stops along your route that coincide approximately two to three hours apart. This can be for a gas stop, a break at a rest stop, or even a side attraction. These regular stops will help keep the overall mood of the group more positive.

Pack Items for Entertainment, Especially for Younger Children –

Even on the most exciting road trips, helping passengers stay distracted from the long times in the vehicle can be a great way to keep everyone happy. This is especially true when you are traveling with young children who may need their attention kept on something other than the ride. Items such as coloring books, your kids’ favorite toys, or mobile electronics are worth considering adding to your luggage.  Wrap a few small items as treats along the trip….even something small will seem more exciting when the child gets to unwrap it!

Bring Plenty of Clothing and Toiletry Items –

Depending on how long you plan on being gone, make sure you bring enough clothing to make it there and back without the need to go for laundry. If you plan on doing laundry at your destination because it’s an Airbnb or you’re visiting family, then you should still make sure you have enough to reach your destination and then return. If you’re traveling with a baby, toddlers, or potty-training children, over-estimate the amount of wipes and diapers to bring with you so you don’t have to make an emergency stop somewhere.  Also, be sure to pack along an easily accessible change of clothing for infants and younger children.

An Emergency Kit is Vital to Any Successful Road Trip –

A well-stocked emergency kit is an important thing to remember when packing the rest of the items you plan on taking with you. In your emergency kit, we recommend bringing first-aid items such as band-aids and instant ice packs. Bottled water, non-perishable snacks, and a spare smartphone charging cable along with a radio and batteries are all items that should be added to your emergency kit as well.

Have Your Vehicle Serviced Before Your Leave –

The importance of having your vehicle serviced before your vacation is paramount. Having to stop somewhere unexpected for an emergency service or breaking down at the side of the road are easy ways to derail a trip completely. Therefore, we highly suggest you have your service technician do a thorough inspection and maintenance plan on your vehicle before you leave. This includes checking fluids, your vehicle’s battery, and its climate control system for proper refrigerant levels. Our Service Center staff will be happy to get your Alfa Romeo ready for your next trip too!
