As such, you have to remember that you can’t drive on these very slippery road conditions in the same way you would during the rest of the year. How to Safely Drive During Snowy Colorado Weather Conditions

Consider an AWD Vehicle and/or Winter Tires – Our first suggestion has less to do with the process of driving, but rather better preparing yourself to safely do so when it is time to get on the road. AWD allows you to have better all-around maneuverability when the roads get incredibly slippery by supplying power to a wheel or wheels that have slippage detected. General Driving Suggestions – Since the roads you drive on could be incredibly slippery, all of your movements should be as planned out as possible. You need to give yourself extra time to react to situations going on around you as your vehicle may struggle to achieve the same level of grip as it typically does. Therefore, we always suggest giving yourself extra time to reach your destination, as well as making sure you leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you. Stopping distance is considerably lengthened on slippery roads, meaning you need more time to achieve a safe stop. Another important element of safe winter driving is preventing sudden steering inputs. If you have to make a turn, try and make your steering inputs gradual. This will allow your tires to maintain their grip better than if you have to make a sharp turn. Finally, make sure that you stay slower than you would normally drive on clear roads. This will give you even more time to react accordingly to a potential situation.
